Functional
Medicine

What is functional medicine?

Functional medicine is an approach to health that takes a whole person approach to treating and preventing existing chronic disease.

Functional medicine uses a scientific approach to find the root cause of illness and treat that, rather than randomly treating the symptoms.

Success comes when the patient and the doctor work in partnership following a systematic treatment plan.

How is functional medicine different to a conventional approach?

We focus on your health and how to improve it, rather than just the disease itself. Conventional medicine manages disease; functional medicine focuses on restoring your mind and body to a state of optimal health.

For example, if you have high blood pressure your GP will prescribe drugs to lower it. If you see a functional medicine practitioner your treatment plan will start with finding what is causing the high blood pressure, and then proceed to what is needed to lower it.

Does functional medicine work?

Yes! We see that most illnesses are triggered by lifestyle triggers. The foundations of functional medicine consider diet, sleep, movement, stress and relationships. Clinical research clearly indicates that these five areas are likely to have the biggest impact on the broadest range of conditions. There is clinical research behind our approach so when a patient addresses one or many of these five areas they see long term health improvements.

How long before I start to feel better?

Chronic illnesses develop over time. We can’t give you a precise timeframe in which you will start to feel better – there are so many factors to account for things such as your particular diagnosis, how long you’ve been sick, and how well you are able to follow the treatment plan. Because we treat the cause of your illness – the “why” and not just the symptoms, we can be confident that with our approach your healing, as it naturally unfolds, will be long lasting.

Appointments

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Before your appointment with Dr Gayetri Chudasama, you will spend 60 minutes in consultation with our health coach Carmen.

You will then have another one-to- one appointment with Dr Gayetri (GMC Number: 7054032). She will take a full case history and, with your permission, perform a physical examination.

Following your appointment with Dr Gayetri a proposed treatment plan will be drawn up, including any necessary lab tests. She will answer any questions you have about your treatment and fully explain the reasoning behind your particular course of treatment.

As you can see from this, we spend time with you right from the outset to ensure that your treatment will get to the heart of the matter.

What do I need to do before my first appointment?

We will send you some forms to fill in online, which you must complete three working days before the appointment. Of course, if you prefer, you can print out the forms, fill them in, and post them to us – again, as long as we have them three working days before the appointment.

If you have any relevant test results please send them to us.

Also, please keep a seven day food diary and bring that with you.

Can we work remotely?

Yes! Ideally, we do like to see patients face to face for the initial appointment, if possible. However, if you don’t live near London we can still help you. You will only have to come for the first appointment; after that, we can speak on the telephone or use video conferencing technology like Zoom.

What is our cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel your appointment, please do so 48 hours prior to the specified date, and reschedule for a more suitable time. You may do so twice without losing the deposit. If you cancel within the 48 hours you will lose the security deposit. Please also note that we require a security deposit payment at the time of booking your first appointment.

How much do the tests cost?

On average, you can budget between £150 to £450 for the initial lab tests. As your treatment progresses, we will advise you if further tests are needed.

Do you accept credit cards?

Do you offer payment plans?

We offer payment plans if you choose one of the following packages: Silver Renew, Gold Revive or Diamond Restore.
